I need your help. I am going to open a second Etsy shop to sell some of my extra cool supplies, vintage items and all kinds of good stuff that needs a new home. And yes, most of it is coming from my house. But I need to decide on a name and a style. Can you tell me which one you prefer?I picked two ideas and two different banners. I worked with a really cool Etsy shop, Duke City Mama's, who had these two banners in stock for a GREAT price and so nice to work with too.
Choice A- "Studio Marcy Too" tagline: Creative Supplies & Vintage Indulgences
~ My thought was that perhaps some of my current customers might recognize my name and know that I'd have some good stuff in it.
Choice B- "Marcys Closet" tagline: Supplies & Vintage Goodies
~ A little more casual in appearance and has more of a vintage type of look
••I didn't use an apostrophe on Marcys Closet, because shoppers might remember the name being spelled that way, but Etsy searches don't allow it. So I am omitting it.
You can tell I'm divided on this name. I know it's not of world importance, but holy cow, I'm having a tough time deciding. What do you think? Which one should I choose and why?

Having recently read a book about first instincts & feelings within the first second of being confronted with something new (& how we should learn to listen to them) I am going with that one.
On analyses of what drew my eye to it, I realised that it's because "Marcys Closet" is fun! Less formal in layout. Supplies & Vintage goodies speaks 'fun' to me also. 'Fun' is synonymous with Studio Marcy anyway.
The 'Closet' part speaks of hidden surprises - as if upon looking inside the store you are bound to discover treasures.
My feeling is that is is more aligned with the feel of your 'Studio Marcy' Etsy banner & that people will recognise you anyway.
Hi Marcy, I like them both, but I think I'd go with Studio Marcy Too, I like that it's a play on words and I think you are right in customers connecting the two Studio Marcy's. For some silly reason the fact that Marcys Studio doesn't have an apostrophe is bugging me, which is really bad because it's not like my spelling or grammar are the greatest!
ReplyDeleteMarcy, the banner that caught my eye was the second banner, the red one. It clearly has a more vintage look, and I love the name Marcys Closet. When I think of Studio Marcy, I think of your beautiful sculptural work, so, since this is going to be a store with significantly different products, my vote is for the 2nd banner.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Deb & Mallory. My eye was immediately drawn to the red marcys closet banner. Not sure if it goes back to the cereal box marketing scheme of red sells more. But it just looks like fun and I LOVE that it says Goodies in the tagline.

OK...my eye was drawn to the red banner too..but I like the Studio Marcy too name....so to really confuse things...how bout the Studio Marcy too name on the red banner..??? Can we see, can we see..??
ReplyDeleteMy banners were made by Ali of Duke City Mama's, so I cant' change them. I just wish I had the technical skills.

ReplyDeleteI think "Studio Marcy Too" depicts your bright outlook on life and shows the fun and cool lady that you are...it has vivid colors, which makes it is much more memorable. I vote for this one!!!

ReplyDeleteOh....tough call! Although I really like both names, it's the second banner that is catching my eye. It says FUN! Even the font is whimsical! It can also still tie in with your Studio Marcy name. This is the "closet" part of your "Studio". Where all the goodies are stored. (doing a visual in my head)

ReplyDeleteAnother etsy seller I know opened a supply and destash shop, and called it the cupboard under the stairs... Names like this invite us to look inside to see what wondrous goodies you've been hiding/hoarding! :)
Cupboard under the stairs and closet are actually too small to truly describe my embarrassing pack rat- if I could fit it on a banner, it should include a shelf, basement, attic, multiple closets, drawers, boxes, dressers and so much more. Did I mention under the bed too? But there are a lot of goodies- passed down, bought and hoarded, made...(do you know I paint watercolors and used to dye reed and make baskets, not to mention the Chinese watercolors and supplies, pastels, ribbons, vintage items, antiques and...I'm sure you get the idea. Thank you everyone for telling me what appeals to you. I'm still hoping more folks will tell me what they think.

Marcy's Closet is a great name. That's the one that I like. :0) I'm going to echo what some of the others have said that the whole closet thing makes me want to look inside and SEE what's in there. And it goes well with the destash, and goodies idea. It's like Mary Poppins carpet bag.

i really love marcys closet and i really really love that 2nd banner. i love the design of the second banner so much though that had you switched the names around on them, i probably would have voted for which ever one used that second design! lol
