Musings On The Importance of Name & Reputation

Every so often I visit the Neiman Marcus website.  Sometimes it's just to dream over some of their clothes and other times it's to see what they are offering in the jewelry section too.  (I drool over some of it.)

I was thinking about it this morning and their Glamour Heart Pendant by  Baccarat.  The tag line says, "Baccarat: A long-standing tradition of excellence in exquisitely crafted crystal and glassware."

This little Valentines Day necklace has the following features "Ruby full-lead crystal, Sterling silver, 1 1/8"H x 1 1/2"W & Handcrafted in France."

This little baby retails for $225.00

I wanted to contrast it with this cute, but relatively unknown winged heart that I'm offering for Valentines Day.

•  Two colors of glass
•  Will add Sterling if requested
•  Handcrafted in Atlanta, Georgia
•  Glass from 2 Continents, not just one.
•  Name of actual artisan known

This little baby retails for  $19.00

Okay, so it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison, but I think my slightly quirky heart measures up just fine.

And I know that I need to build my name  and reputation.  Because honestly I think Bacarrat's product is beautiful, but our lampwork hearts and other offerings are creative and wonderful in our own right.

  1. Yes and yours is UNIQUE Marcy! Not another one exactly the same in the whole world - or even universe for that matter! I wonder how many of those little crystal hearts they sell?

  2. Marcy - I think that your little winged heart MORE than measures up, it 'exceeds'.

Unique, one of a kind - it has far more value than anything that is 'officially' produced for a company.

Oh yeah a glitzy streamlined heart might look great with those Dolce & Gabanna sunglasses, the Gucci bag & the Manolo Blahnik shoes along with what ever 'brand' name dress one wants to wear - but I think your heart would be the one that really got noticed, because it would have that 'edge' & that 'edge' can't be purchased in a designer brand name carrying department store ....so you tell me
who does that make the true designer ;o)

(Privately I wonder where the individuality is in any of those known names - but maybe it's just me)

  3. Marcy,

In my estimation one detail was left out of the description . "This is a one of a kind art piece"

Take care and have an audacious afternoon :)

  4. this is too coincidental. on my blog i just compared something in my shop to some $2000 item at barneys new york. and then did the same for other handmade goodies. you must have sent my your brain waves because i know you posted first. its ture though, that there is something so special about knowing that a real heart and soul went into something like your glass work.
