(meet Harold, their new little Nigerian Dwarf Goat)
The Backyard Farm will test your soil to see what would grow best. And even if you live in the middle of the city, they can help you figure out, what will work for your specific situation.
This concept really makes sense to me. With all of the concerns about what is in our food, if you have the desire to grow some of your own food, we all know that fresh produce always tastes delicious. I hope other communities have something similar available.
So tell me, (well known in my household as having the brownest thumb ever), do you grow anything? I'd love to hear about your successes. Tell us where you live and what grow. Thanks for sharing.
Before moving overseas in 1994, we had about 10-12 chickens (for eggs) and a small garden, including green beans, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and we tried corn. Our soil wasn't right for corn...living near the NC shore, we're fairly sandy, and the corn kernels were big, gray, and scarey!
ReplyDeleteNow we're growing golden peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, and squash. And oh, I have flowers too.
