Treasury Hunting

I enjoy creating and being in Etsy treasuries. Putting them together is not only enjoyable, but also gives me a chance to feature my fellow street team members, friends, items I admire, or even to show other viewers a point of view.

I love having my lampwork glass beads featured in treasuries too. Not only is it free advertising and might bring more "eyes" to my shop, but I like seeing the theme of the ones I've been chosen to be in. It gives me a snapshot of what that person is thinking about my work.

Keeping track of when the treasuries will open to snag one, is a bit more difficult. I forget to look, or I lose track of time and then miss them.

Craftopolis has just made treasury hunting a lot easier. The website has pages which show you how many are currently in use and approximately how much longer until they open again.

It also has a search engine for you to submit seller names to see if you're in any of the treasuries or gift guides.

If you are curious, you can check on other sellers too.

With treasuries changing out every two to three days, this can make the process speedier. When I'm in a treasury, I try to click on every photo and make a comment. That helps bring the treasury ranking up to a higher number.

So here's the cool thing. Even if you aren't an Etsy seller, but are signed up with an Etsy name, you can make treasuries too. Kind of a fun way to express yourself and create a window of what you like. Try it sometime. It's a lot of fun. And now you can easily find out approximately when they'll be available again.

See you tomorrow.

  1. Hi Marcy,

I've been wondering how people know when/if they are in a treasury. Are there other ways to know, other than check all the treasuries many times a day? Also, what is Treasury West? And how is it different from Treasury Main?

Thanks for this great info, lisa

  2. Hi Lisa,
Usually people check the treasuries to try to figure it out. Here's what happens, new treasuries will not be added until the total number of the main treasuries goes below 333. So that's the magic number. And usually I would count to see which one was that number and then look on it to see when it would expire. (Note: that is an approximate time)

Then when it would get within a few hours of that time, I'd start looking. People can end their treasuries when they want, so often the new treasuries come up earlier than expected. With this new tool, it gives you an approximate number of hours until it expires, so you don't need to count, or go back and forth. Bookmark this tool.

The difference between the main treasury and the treasury west, is that the Treasury West is used by Etsy Admins for technical experimentation. It is not advertised and can go away at any time. But Etsy people know about it and visit it and it is a lesser way, but still a free way of advertising your friends and fellow etsy members' shops.

If you need more info, please ask. I'm sure it's confusing to lots of people.

    thanks,
    Marcy

  4. Thanks, Marcy, for the detailed response. I am so happy to have the tool. I had thought to do something like you describe in your answer, but it seems like a lot of work. . .I'll let you know when I make or get my first Treasury!
