AdSense on Blogs?

Does it make sense to use AdSense?
That's what I want to know.

I've been debating whether I want to have ads on my blog. I'm not sure that I do, but it's probably time to consider it.

So my friends, I'm asking you...do you use it? How do you like it? Are the financial returns worthwhile?

Or do you take advertising on your own? Does it work for you?

I know that usually I'm showing you websites or telling you about tools and other things I've found, but this time I'm asking you for your input. I'm really on the fence about having advertising. And even more so, wondering which kind to have if I do so. Please tell me your opinion on the topic.

See you tomorrow for more glass and creativity fun.

  1. I do have adsense on three blogs and my personal website. I've had it for about two years and my profits to date: a WHOPPING 48.57 - which means I've never gotten paid. Google only pays when you reach 100 dollars.

And... they have a software glitch right now (ongoing since April). I can't even enter my new checking account number...forcing me to be paid by check (should that 100 dollar pay day ever come!) and take longer to receive my money.

I've asked several beady friends with way more traffic than mine and they average about 100 every 11 - 12 months.

That being said, it is so EASY to use. Cut and paste.

If I were a more high profile beadmaker and actually sold my beads... And I had some HTML skills, I think it would be way more profitable to sell ads on my site. Or you could do both! AdSense between posts and paid direct ads on the right.

I say, what have you got to lose??? Either way, you should make some profit!

  2. Hi Marcy,

I guess I'd ask you why you feel the time has come to place ads on your site? Why do you feel you need them?

I don't plan to place ads on my blog or my site. I'd rather keep it content rich and control the visuals on the sites. I don't feel the cost of having a blog or a website is exorbitant and I'm able to support both via the sales of beads.

We've discussed this on Art Bead Scene too - ABS prefers to be "ad-less."

    Good luck with your decision!

  3. Hi Cindy and Holly,
Thank you for your responses. They both have good information and thought behind them.

I am personally of Cindy's thinking. But I wondered whether I was mistaken, and knowing that there are a lot of bead makers and other artists who read my blog, it would be smart to ask "the experts"- all the readers who might have experience in this matter. I've had a large response on facebook, where this blog is also published. And I am delighted to agree with the majority, that it's better to be without ads at this time. I kind of like my blog the way it is, although I know there are plenty of other kinds of improvements I can make in other directions.

But now this has me thinking...I've been advertising on some websites and other areas- is that worth it, if most people don't click on ads? Hmmm, that might be the topic of another post on another day.

    thanks all,
    Marcy

  5. Fwiw, I find ads on blogs/sites annoying, and I have yet to click on any.
