Light Me Up!

Lights everywhere!

While in Murano, we were lucky to visit a delightful little hidden light shop with glass and crystal chandeliers.

You can see our looks of wonder as we learned that we could design our own colors, patterns and styles within their parameters. In fact, one of our class members did just that.

Another class member was exploring the possibility of checking into purchasing a chandelier skeleton, (I don't know the correct term for it), so that they could use their own glass to create a light of their own style.

Ah the possibilities....

See you tomorrow for another blog about creativity, fun, glass or who knows what! http://www.StudioMarcy.blogspot.com

  1. I'm glad to hear you got to wander around on Murano! We went over on an organized tour (mistake!) and we weren't allowed to leave the gallery to which we had been ushered. When we failed to produce 55,000 Euro to purchase a chandelier or 600 Euro for a teacup, we were told to check out the gift shop where the "cheap stuff" was. After approximately 45 seconds in the gift shop, we were ushered out onto a dock and the door was locked behind us. Thank goodness we had cell phones to call our hotel and ask for a taxi, because there was no where to go from the dock except in the water! Yikes! They were NOT friendly to us! I asked repeatedly if we could leave the shop and wander the island and they absolutely refused. VERY strange. The glass in the gallery was gorgeous, though! I just wish we had seen more of the island and smaller shops/artists! When I mentioned that I did lampwork the lady huffed and said very snottily, "Lampwork is not an art! It's a craft at best" - LOL!

  2. Karen, I am so sorry you had that experience. I saw tour boats that seemed to do something similar. We actually stayed on Murano for almost 2 weeks, as our glass class was there too. It was wonderful. We shopped at the grocery store, and got to know some of the people who live on Murano. My memories (and hundreds of photos) are very treasured.

  3. That place just rocks, making a chandelier would be a whole lot of fun but it sure would take a lot of beads!

  4. "Hey Mike, I want to see the marbles you're making and I want to know how many work for a tank of oxy... and of course I'm curious as to how many more jeans you found that fit?
take care and keep those feet dry,
    Marcy"

    Hi Marcy,
while cleaning up my blog I noticed a post, wow.
Have not been in the shop in five months, waiting on some glass...
20 plus marbles to a tank of oxygen.
As it turned out March 30th was 'first day of shorts' so I do not have to worry about jeans. Also bought some Walmart Velcro shoes... dry foot.
From the blog there is a link to marble artists with some marble work pictured.
    Thanks for the comment.
    Bye,
    Mike
