Need Some Fairy Magic?

There are some days that a little magic would be helpful. This is Emily the Fairy and she likes to help around the house. Little bits of fairy magic here and there to make your days run smoother. You know the routine...lost the car keys and thinking, "Oh where did I put them?" and then voila, the answer pops into your head almost magically. Or how about the time all your socks actually matched when pulled from the dryer?

That's all for now. Just think good thoughts and believe.

It's Not Easy Being Green

It's not easy being green. This is Ferguson who is currently living in my etsy shop. He's a happy sort who likes beverages made out of "hops".

I'll be back again tomorrow!

Quick As A Bunny

I need to be "Quick as a Bunny" with this post, because it's time to cook dinner. But before I do, I wanted you to meet Jack. He's the Jack Rabbit that I made just the other evening, and I think he's rather cute. He sold before I posted him, so I'll be making more one of these days...or nights. I just wanted to show him to you, because I was pleased with his cute little face.

Thanks for looking,
Marcy

Peach Connoisseur

ve
You're probably expecting that these gorgeous peaches are from Georgia as that's where I live. Nope. But I'd put these peaches up against ANY anywhere in the world. These are Western Slope Peaches from Colorado, (where I used to live). I think these are the most delicious of any I've ever tasted. And I love peaches. These are just some that I froze for future family needs. One of our friends sent us a box of them, and I spent a good part of yesterday "putting them up".

As I know that this is more of a glass and bead blog, I'll stop now. Tomorrow I promise you a photo of a darling rabbit I made last night. But tonight, I'll be savoring a rum and peach drink as I write out my glass list for tomorrow.

Camellia Rose the Southern Belle Tropical Fish

Oh Camellia Rose is a Southern Belle. She has been in fish beauty contests since she was just a little bitty thing and has bought new Maybelline waterproof mascara (you know, the one in the bright pink container) every three months religiously. She loves grits- butter, salt and pepper and of course her mama's fresh biscuits with honey.

We won't discuss her over-use of blush. Suffice it to say, it's hard to break old habits from the days of her beauty pageants. Luckily for us, her winners' crowns and trophies are in a locked case.

And just for the record, this is a fish story.

Airport Snafu and Mermaids

I wish there was a great tie in to both topics, but honestly they're quite separate. I had a request to do some younger girl mermaids. They make sweet necklaces for daughters, or I have cute little stands that I make for them. They're adorable on a dresser or favorite shelf.

On a totally unrelated note, we just got back from the airport. My son was due in at 5:30pm, and then his flight was cancelled. Then he almost made it on another flight, but standby was full. So he was due in at 8:40pm and I waited a long time at the airport in the middle of a rip roarer storm. Needless to say, he called from Birmingham, AL where they were refueling. Then when they finally made it back to Atlanta, close to midnight, they had to sit on the tarmac because all the gates were full. Then of course the train between concourses was shut down and the mass transit system train to burbs was shut down for the night. He finally came out from baggage claim at 2 am and said that he'd deal with his lost luggage later today. So of course he hadn't eaten and the only place open nearby was Waffle House. It's 5 am and we're finally home and going to catch some shut eye. So if you happen to email me today and I don't respond right away, please assume that I'm catching up on a little bit of much needed sleep. However, I did get a lot of my paperback read tonight, which was nice.

Good night everyone.

Doggy Faces

I'm adding more puppy faces to my shop now. There's been a lot of postive comments from folks, and so now I'm making these and other styles that will be listed periodically. If you have a great photo of your dog, that you think I should try, please email it to me so I can try it. This is another fun new challenge and one that I think could make great Christmas presents for friends and family.

Off to torch for awhile...until it hits that 99 degrees that's been forecasted.

take care,
Marcy

Pickles and Turtles...Stay Tuned

I think I've mentioned how much I enjoy doing custom orders. Well, one of my very nice and totally delightful customers just left, and it was one of my more creative requests.

She would like:
1. One half dollar sized turtle looking to the side
2. Two quarter sized turtles looking in either directions
3. Two dime sized baby turtles peeking out of partially hatched shells
AND
14 gherkin pickles.

I love this life. Where else do you get requests like this?

Hope your week is as fun as mine,
Marcy

BOO!

I've been having a blast making Halloween beads this last week. I don't usually make a lot, but I kind of have gotten attached to some of the characters. Yesterday, it was the ghosts. Needless to say, my ghouls aren't scary, but kind of cute instead. I want smiling ones. So here's an example of what I made. I also did a cute little vampire, some of Frankenstein's brothers, some candy corns, more pumpkins and a few others. It was a good day.

Hope you enjoy today's offering and because I have such a crazy weekend, I won't be back to blog until the end of the weekend or on Monday. Tomorrow I am co-hosting a baby shower, (what fun- baby items always have cute stuff on them), and going to an outdoor concert that night. Then Sunday, I'm heading out to an all day bead making retreat at a friend's house with a group of others. It's like going to camp and making beads and chatting with your friends all at once. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? It will be really hot, but fun.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to visit my etsy shop with lots of stuff in it. If you're looking for anything in particular, please let me know!

Ah....Tuesday. Day After Surgery

Yesterday was the second day of surgery for Ms. Pris the Fish, pictured above. Being the Sturgeon Surgeon, I feel comfortable discussing her surgery and I do have her permission in writing. (This doesn't sound a little fishy, does it?)

Anyhow, when traveling to her new owner, Ms Pris suffered a partial fin detachment. This hasn't happened before, and I"m knocking on wood, that it doesn't happen again. Anyhow, the new owner sent her back to me, for an operation to reattach her left bottom portion of her fin.

After the complicated, but successful surgery, I noticed that Ms. Pris was now suffering from what her grandmother fish would call "Lazy Fish Eye". So she went under again for additional surgery to correct that. She has decided to be brave and honest that she did have a lift done at that time and also her lips were redone. She felt that she was looking more like Melanie Griffith and wanted lips more like Angelinas. So that was done too.

I'm happy to report that she's resting and feeling almost like a new fish...but not quite. Here are the before (Top) and after (Bottom) photos. You'll notice that she was photographed under different conditions, so the colors are not quite the same.

Sincerely,
Dr. StudioMarcy

Dog Days of Summer ~ Here is the bead!

Well, here is the bead that I made from the photo that I posted earlier. I think he turned out pretty cute. Such a darling dog to begin with.

It's Monday again and I'm ready to go! After a feeling a bit lazy yesterday, I've got my mojo going and I'm ready to conquer the world...or at least my small corner of it.

Hope your week is wonderful

Slow As A Snail Today

Do you ever have those days? When you just want to be lazy. I think I hit one. I feel like this bead. Usually it's up and moving full tilt boogie at 5 a.m. But today isn't one of them. I think my batteries need to be recharged. So look for new items tomorrow, and today is "chill" day, as my son says.

See you tomorrow.

Weekend Craziness

Okay, so this isn't the bead that I made of the adorable dog, but Euphonia the Alien Diva demanded that she get a shot in the limelight. Sometimes you look at crazy beads and wonder, how the heck did the artist come up with that? Well this one was easy. We were chatting on our Etsy Glass Artists forum, ( check out ... www.etsyglass.com), and Lis posted a photo of a frog bead that her bf made. It had the raised eyes. Then I was looking through an old children's book and I saw a picture of an alien with lots of arms that had a big mouth and used it like a toy box. Two forms of inspiration and the bead doesn't look like either, but they were the basis of this bead. Actually, I really love this one. It's really cute in person.

Thanks for stopping by. I've got a busy weekend ahead. When my son comes home from college for a visit, I know there will be a lot of friends visiting, lots of music and a lot of fun. I can't wait.

Happy weekend,
Marcy

Glass Challenges - Love Them!

One of my favorite things is to have customers ask me to make a bead that will have special meaning for them. I'm a Gemini and we thrive on variety and besides that, I love making people happy. Well here is a photo of one of my favorite customer's dog. Adorable, isn't he? So my quest for today is to do a likeness in glass. I'm excited to get started. One of the challenges wil be to represent fur and even harder, is to do white fur. Without the variety of colors to show the viewer depth, it can be pretty tough. Can't wait. I love customer special orders. Each one is unique and lots of fun.

Thanks for stopping by, and of course, I'll show you the finished bead...however it turns out.

Different Kind of Bead

Oh, I think I mentioned before that I made a different style of bead the other day. I belong to a few street teams and one of them is Art Jewelry Collective on Etsy. I chipped in for an ad in Ornament Magazine to try to show the buyers that high end jewelry is found on Etsy and here are some examples. I felt that my usual style that I use for Etsy, was a little too, shall we say, "casual"? I needed something that shows another side of me and what I like to do.

So here is my example. It is my totem necklace. A book on Inuit Masks was my inspiration. I love the face behind the mask which combines humans with nature. For me, it's something that is thought provoking and interesting.

I also kept to neutral colors, except for the tiny piece of turqoise. I couldn't resist.

Hope you like it. I look forward to your comments. I'm thinking about doing a series of these. What do you think?

Sparkling Teeth?? and Free Shipping Today

Sparkling Teeth????
So here I was at our monthly Southern Flames Board Meeting (it's a local chapter of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers), minding my own business...well, kind of. Perhaps minding everyone else's too. And my friend Alice said she had a little gift for me. It was "Blinky Teeth - multi colored LED flashing mouth piece". We all sure got a good laugh out of it. And I love it. My friend Adele sent me this picture from last night when I tried it out. Thanks Alice and Adele.

I guess I'll save my "serious" Pacific Northwest focal for another day. Somehow it might just seem like too large of a juxtaposition.

Oh, by the way. I'm featured in today's Etsy Showcase. In honor of that, I'm having FREE SHIPPING today until midnight.

It's MONDAY!

Good morning everyone. I love Mondays. It's the start of a new week and more glass adventures for me. I get lots done on Mondays as I gear up for the rest of the week. Today I have a delightful student coming over for a few hours and later tonight, I'm attending our Southern Flames Board Meeting. (I'm their advisor). If you can't tell, I always have something to say.

I've got some special custom orders I'm working on in the afternoon too.

Here's one of my favorite beads. I love Gnomes. I'll be listing him later this week, unless someone convos me through my etsy shop first and dibs him. (www.StudioMarcy.etsy.com) My goal is to have as many gnomes as possible travel around the world just like the Travelocity one. I took some to Minneapolis on my recent trip and actually I was wearing one when I went on my tour. I got to use a Segway for the first time. That's a blast. I highly recommend it.

I'll catch you later. Thanks for stopping by.

Stop by for a few smiles.....

Oh Heavens, Here We Go!

It's time for me to join this century and create my first blog. Welcome! I'm sure you'll learn all kinds of useless and fun information about me, my bead making and life in general.

Let's start with the important part. I'm a glass lampwork beadmaker, teacher and mentor. I've been working in this field for the last 8 years and loving every minute of it. I spend a good part of my day smiling while working at my torch, or pulling my hair out, as I'm trying to figure out what computer technology I need to know to stay current with online marketing.

That's it for my very first blog. Now to figure out how to add a photo and other important facets of this new enterprise.

Love to you all,
Marcy
