Win a Torch Contest! Celebrate with FlameTree Glass

I copied this straight from FlameTree Glass's website, www.flametreeglass.com  This is a wonderful half day of celebration and a really nice glass sale.  FlameTree is my hometown glass studio and I think they are great - with advice, customer service and just being really great folks.
Hope you can join them on June 23rd and if not, perhaps grab some of the great deals and enter their contest.
And by the way, I am not a celebrity.  They were just being kind and I am honored to have been asked to help judge the contest.  And I'm afraid no bribes this time.  I will be scrupulously careful to do my job!

Open Torch

One of the features of the Gathering that I really enjoy is watching other people use the torches (or burners, if I'm being correct) in person.  Each person has their techniques and tricks that are fun to watch.  And the Gathering proved once again that to be true.

Amy from Zooziis attracted a lot of attention when she sat down to demonstrate her product.  I enjoyed seeing the large crowd watching her closely to see how it works.

Thanks to Lisa St. Martin and her crew who help make all of that possible for us.  And of course a big thanks to the vendors who bring these for us to use.

Attendees, just wondering....did you feel comfortable sitting down and trying one out?  I have heard both sides to this issue and was wondering how you feel.  I know it took me a few years before I did.  But I do like it when folks make an item or two and then hand off the torch to someone else to give it a whirl.  To me, that's what it's about.  Giving everyone a chance.  I know the torch manufacturers like their torches to stay busy and hopefully encourage us to upgrade to new ones.

Anyone out there buy a torch this year?  I'm still debating that enticing Scorpion.  Or something similar.  we'll see.

GTT's Scorpion Torch for Glass

I was lucky to have had a chance to try out Glass Torch Technologies' new "The Scorpion" torch at the International Society of Glass Beadmakers' Gathering in Miami last month. Unlike its name, I didn't see any sting connected with it.

In fact, it was a blast. I checked out the center fire, which is the same as their smaller torch, "The Cricket" and then cranked it up to a full blast using their jet outer fire. I understand that this surface mix design is to optimize a 10 LPM or two linked five LPM concentrators. Perfect. Just what I own.

The retail price of this baby will eventually be $780, but currently is $650 for GTT's roll out.

Now my biggest question is whether I "need" it. If you haven't read this blog at length, you might not be aware that I already own a few too many torches in my husband's opinion. I'm not using all of them as it is.

But...this one makes so much sense. It works with my current oxygen concentrator, provides more heat and more efficiency than my other larger torches. I must say it's very tempting.

But for now, I'm going to continue contemplating it. And if you have bought one, or have tried it and have comments, I'd love for you to speak up. Possibly you might be swaying me in one direction or another. I just know that I liked what I tried...very much.

Catch you tomorrow for more glassy thoughts.
