Log On, Zen Out

I saw this photo on a garden page and wondered why I hadn't seen more of these garden logs?  I love the idea of nature nurturing these colorful plants and incorporating the organic with the organic.

And when our big maple tree met its demise a few years ago, how this would have been so cool.  Even used vertically kind of like pedestals, this could add some great interest in a landscape.

Have you seen this before or have some great ideas using other natural materials?  I'm always interested in hearing more.
