Yay for Public Art!

My friend, Jim Berry of Blue Moon Glassworks took this photo of a small section of a public art mural he is helping with in Austin TX.  Shipe Park is a cute little green space with a swimming pool-  not too far from his business in the Hyde Park neighborhood.  Austin is rich with public art and it's always a joy to see it, when I visit.

This is the second public mosaic mural that he's worked on.  Seeing photos and hearing about their process makes me wish my local government found a way to beautify my area too.  I love not only the end result, but the concept, the teamwork and all the other factors that go with it.

Do you have something like this going on where you live? I'd love to hear about it.

Austin Bead Society

I'm currently in Austin, Texas again. This time to take a class, instead of teach it. But before I discuss that, I wanted to show you just a little bit of one of the display cases at the Austin Airport.

Wow, the Austin Bead Society sure knows how to put on a great show. Gorgeous work by a variety of artists, prime location for many folks to see it, and great big posters publicizing their group.

I'm hoping that this kind of enterprise is mirrored in other locations. What has your art group done recently to help the members? This is so cool. Hats off to the Austin Bead Society. Great job!

Hotel Joule Pool...How Cool!

I guess I can dream, can't I?

If I ever get to Dallas, and I also happen to have won the lottery, I'd love to stay at the Hotel Joule.

The cantilevered rooftop pool entrances me. Perched off end of the building, I can only imagine what it would be like to swim at night with the Dallas downtown lights and views from the end of it. How amazing.

The 1927 Gothic Revival building has definitely been revived. It's sophisticated and I know, just waiting for me.
