15 Minutes of Fame Are Over For Now

Well, my fame ended quickly. The treasury had a blip and I was the blip. I'm the disappearing square. So watch next week for VickiDiane's next Ladies of Etsy Exposed Treasury, and I'll be in that one.

My fame was fleeting, but very appreciated anyhow.

15 Minutes of Fame, Part 1

My 15 minutes of Fame starts NOW!

Today and for a few days, I am one of the people in VickiDianeDesigns' Etsy treasury http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=13623670

It shows the faces behind the etsy shop names and there are 10 guys and 2 of us gals. I think it's a great concept and I take great delight in seeing what the other shopkeepers look like. Oh, we're a diverse group!

Here's the scoop on the photo...I took it with my computer! How's that for being snappy? I sat on the floor of my studio, (had to do it quickly because those tiles get a little hard), and hunkered down a bit so that I would have some of my glass rods in the background. I wanted the viewer to see what I melt, when making my glass beads.

So stop by the treasury, and the photo is also a listing in my shop, so you can see it there too- http://www.StudioMarcy.etsy.com

Thanks!
Marcy

Kids, Dogs and Other Fun Stuff

Usually I choose a bead that illustrates what I'm thinking about, but today I just chose one that makes me smile. Jenny with an Attitude, does just that. I have seen my share of little girls who get in a huff, and they make me laugh.

For you bead lovers who read this, Jenny was made on a 1/16th mandrel and started as a tab. I had some extra green stringer that made a nice base and then added the head, arms, legs and extra details. The puppy came next, because she really needed to be carrying something special, and the sunglasses and tiny details are stroked on last.

I'll be posting again soon. Lots of thoughts floating around in here.

Take care,
Marcy

Pig Thugs

Pig Thugs.
I've started making bobblehead beads. I know, the call for them is tremendous and I'm just filling a market niche. But seriously, (or not so seriously), the world needs to see pigs as they truly are. I know we think of them as laying around and wallowing in mud, but I'm revealing what they do at night, when farmers are in bed.

Okay, so I'll come clean. I'm making bobblehead beads because I've been asked to do a presentation at our annual International Society of Glass Beadmakers' conference, which we call the Gathering. It's in a few weeks, and I'm excited to be demonstrating one of my beads.

I'll be showing the group how I do an Elvis bobblehead, (also called "nodders"). He's wearing a white jumpsuit and has been obviously hitting the peanut butter and banana sandwiches that he was known for. I'll post a photo later on.

So if anyone is in the Oakland California area on August 9th, please contact me for information about our fabulous bead show and sale that will be going on at the Marriott downtown in Oakland.

Hope to see you there!

Prickly as a Cactus...?

Well, to be honest, it takes a whole lot to make me that way. I just didn't have a bead to illustrate "I'm tired from working so much". Hmm, have to think on that one. If you have any ideas, please post them here.

I've got a couple of shows coming up soon. This friday, I'll be at Atlantic Station here in Atlanta, if you live around here. It's a really cool urban renewal area with great restaurants, lots of shops and of course my beloved IKEA. I'll be in one of the white tents lining the green space between the restaurants from 5-10-ish. Please stop by.

My other show is in Oakland California in early August. You'll be hearing more about that one. It the fabulous annual conference for lampwork artists from all over the world that the International Society of Glass Beadmakers puts on. We call it the Gathering. Well, lots of the beadmakers have a big bead show during the Saturday of the conference and of course, I'll be selling my beads too.

So I'm trying to make beads for the show and keep up with my shop on etsy, http://www.studiomarcy.etsy.com . I'll be posting some of the special beads that I'm making for the show as well as my jewelry that I'm making for Friday night, and I decided to start adding lampwork how to tips also. In other words...I'm back!

take care,
Marcy
