Eye for Color - Great Color Wheels

For my birthday, my friends  Kristy & Margie gave me this wonderful set of Eye for Color color wheels by Beverly Ash Gilbert. And it's really cool!  There are interchangeable color wheel disks that fit into place, with  the black templates that snap over the top of them.  It sure makes color selection easy, when you're debating which combination might work best.

Margie Deeb's Spring/Summer Color Report

Do you keep track of the Spring and Summer Pantone Colors and how they affect your bead/ beadmaking business and fashion?  Margie Deeb does and puts it all together, along with color combinations, percentages of color and lots of great inspiration for you.

I was lucky to be chosen to make a necklace for Margie's Spring/ Summer 2011 Color Report for Bead & Jewelry Makers.  My assignment was to use the following colors, lavender, silver peony and silver cloud in a necklace.  The Silver peony was supposed to be about 80% and the rest divided between the other two colors.

So this is what I made.  I kept it simple because the predominant color was so soft and almost a nude color (for me, at least) and the other colors were in such small amounts.  I used sterling silver chain for my Silver Cloud color and Moretti glass Periwinkle for the lavender shade.  CIM glass's Desert Pink was very close to the Silver Peony shade along with some rose quartz, (I think that's what the stone is- someone correct me if I'm wrong please) and little matching beads.

Working in a paler palette and keeping from using my typical sculptural beads, made it a fun stretch.  I even used a press, which is so very different, but fun.

So tell me, are you using this Spring and Summer's fashion colors?  If you're interested, check out Margie's color report.  Her color swatch combinations are right on point with great inspiration.

Color For Bead Artists

If you haven't discovered my friend, Margie Deeb's "Color For Bead Artists" blog, you might be missing out.

Margie is a color expert. She teaches classes across the country on this topic and I was lucky enough to take one. Wow, did I learn a lot in it, and I thought I had at least the basics down. Wrong. There's so much more.

On this blog, she explains all about color, gives different perspectives, includes different ways to look at it and in my opinion, is really very interesting. (yes, I'd say that even if she wasn't my friend) Margie has quite a few excellent books and publications out. You can find them on her website, http://www.margiedeeb.com.

And to you my readers and friends, I'm wishing you a happy Night Before Christmas. May all your dreams come true. (and don't forget the plate of cookies and glass of milk)

Test Your Color Sense

I saw this website http://www.Livelygrey.com on Margie Deeb's last email. You probably already know Margie's name as an internationally known color expert. Luckily, she lives near me and I've had the fun of getting to take a class from her. She's wonderful. If you ever get that chance, grab it. She also has books and color reports, which are great reading as well.

Anyhow, this is a website she mentioned and it ranges from some games that even I can do to ones that I would only dream of being able to complete. However, from hearing some of your scores on other color matching sites I've posted, I know some of you will be able to do them all with great ability. So have at it and let me know. I'll be waiting to hear you crowing or woe-ing over them.

And I've decided to start taking Saturday off. It will be a day to research some of this stuff and add a little time to my schedule. I'll be back on Sunday bright and early with more fun. http://www.StudioMarcy.blogspot.com See you then!

Meet Lucite Green ~ Margie Deeb's Choice for Spring's Color of 2009

Margie Deeb, Author of the Color Report for Bead Artists and color expert has written in her "Margie's Muse" about Lucite Green this month. In her opinion, she would love for it to be Spring's color of 2009.

And personally, I would have to agree with her. Not only do I love the color, but also she used my lampwork fish necklace to illustrate it. (Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing it. It's not on my website)

Margie's latest publication, The Spring Summer 2009 Color Report for Bead Artists, shows Panetone's (the world reknowned authority on color) 10 chosen colors for the season. Margie takes these industry colors and shows you how to use them in different palettes, combinations and percentages. What a difference it makes!

Margie includes lots of beaded jewelry and pieces to show the reader how the combinations and amounts of each color look in actual pieces that were made by her readers. I don't know about you, but that sure helps me a lot.

And here's one more tip. Margie has year's of color information available for FREE in pdf form on her website through her Margie's Muse and she also does podcasts. Just go here to download the pdf's. You'll learn so much. I took a day long class from Margie and learned so much about the choices I was making unconsciously, and how to improve and add variety to what my natural taste is. I'm a big fan.

And if you're interested in which glass I used to achieve this Lucite Green color, it was Check Glass's 53122 Mint Green which is COE 102. I love this color. It says fresh and happy to me. I pair it with aqua for a beachy look.

Do You Know Beading Color Expert Margie Deeb?

Do you know beading color expert Margie Deeb?

She writes wonderful articles, pdfs, books and does podcasts regarding colors for beaders.

She is busy working on a Spring color forecast and I'm lucky to be making one of the jewelry illustrations for it.

Here is an approximation of the colors that I'll be using but in different proportions.

I was thinking of making a sculptural flower bead with these colors. And as it needs to be finished jewelry for my submission, then use that bead to make a ring. But seeing that it's not due for a little while, I'm open to suggestions from all of you. What would you like to see in these colors? It should be 50% pink, 22% green and yellow- each and about 6% white. I'd love to hear your ideas.
