Getting Ready For Blue Moon In Austin

I am excited to be teaching in Austin next week at Blue Moon Glassworks. My two day Pets Class is so much fun. It is the same one I taught at the ISGB Gathering last year. We will work on a range of dogs and cats, of course, but will also touch on a small rodent (we actually had a pet rat when my kids were little, but no fear, this one is the much cuter hamster) and of course we will do a bird too. But my favorite part is when each student will use their photos and will design and make their own personal pet! I love how excited students are when they make their special family member...like an inner glow comes forth. Totally awesome.

ps  I had to include a photo every blog, so this is yesterday's test kitty with a bird on her head .  Haven't made this style before, so have plenty to tweak.  But wanted to show you my first try.  It will be fun to see where it goes.  Can you tell I wanted to try one with color?

Red Riding Hood Bead Inspiration

I have an upcoming deadline for my Southern Flames glass group to make a bead to go on our Chapter's postcard.  We have quite a few members, so usually I make something that has a bright color on it to stand out, or is just plain fun to make.

So this year, with all the commercials for the Red Riding Hood movie, I thought a cute little girl might be fun to try.  So I went to Etsy.com and did a search for Red Riding Hood and look what I found.  I love this picture.  It's from a shop called "When Guinea Pigs Fly", which cracks me up.  And this sure is a sweet little painting.

You'll need to wait a bit to see whether I made an animal in the red cloak, or a little girl.  But there is no wait to find what inspired me.  You're looking at it.  (BTW, I did NOT make a guinea pig)

Hamsters....

Camillia is hanging around my Etsy shop and needs to be adopted. Know anyone who loves hammies? She is a little shy, but has a sweet personality. You can find her hanging out here.

Making Pets Into Glass Beads

Meet Jasmine the Hamster. She's a likable sort. Soft, fluffy, and this one doesn't escape, unless it's your idea.

Jasmine is a glass bead- oh about 1.5" long and a little more than half an inch tall. She's a great little focal bead for hamster lovers, but would also look delightful on a stand or sitting by a computer. I think she'd make a great ornament too.
