You Pick Bead Exchange

I have blogged about doing exchanges that stretch what you typically do.  And this is one of my favorite ones found on Lampwork Etc.  It's called You Pick 7.  Each participant posts an inspiration photo and everyone interprets it in the best way that they can.

So...I'm pretty sure you can pick out the bead that I made for this photo above.

This one, was one of the hardest for me. I know, it should have been easy, but finding the right colors and the gentle gradations of it, felt tough.  What would you have done?

This is the photo that I chose for others to make.  I love the organic forms and I thought that these colors were represented in both CiM and Moretti- and that it might be something that a beginner through advanced glass beadmaker might be able to interpret.  After I chose it, I saw one of this series by Matisse at our Atlanta Hight Art Museum up close.  It was pretty amazing.

This is an Artists Choice Glass Challenge. Any theme is welcome as long as it is a glass creation that YOU created for this specific glass challenge. Soft or Hard glass welcome. All skill sets welcome. There will be one prize.

The winning entry will become the property of MGA and will need to be shipped to MGA before prize will be issued. The piece will be placed in a show case that is on display now showcasing other's work. The winning entry will also have the artists information attached to piece. The staff and owners of MGA will be picking the winner.

Deadline: is August 31st, 12pm EST ~ ALL skill sets are welcomed and encouraged to join in this challenge!

Glass Challenge Still Going On

Have you entered for this latest edition of the Glass Challenge? I have. My little owl on a branch is right here.

It's in two parts. I made the owl sitting directly on the wood stump and branch as one of my "exercises" in heat control. I do that type of thing regularly. How can I keep everything the right heat and still add unevenly weighted sculptural additions. It's a lot of fun for me- like a puzzle. The base is a second bead, like my typical bead stands with the steel rod holding up the bead. Each one is cased with silver glass to give it that wonderful color combination. The owl was designed with silver ivory to fume it and add details.

And just so you don't make the same mistake I did, below each entry are a series of little dots for rating the submissions. Big blonde moment, I accidentally clicked on the 0/5 dots, instead of the reverse. And you can't erase! Oh duh. So do me a favor, if you're rating them, be careful and don't mess up like I did. Worst is to the left and best is to the right. Snap!

Glass Challenge- Nature's Beauty

The Flow and Profitable Glass & Glass Patterns are sponsoring the current Glass Challenge. It's time to commune with Mother Nature, because the topic for this challenge needs to be inspired by Nature's Beauty.

Beads, sculpture, mixed media and other means are welcome.

Entries will be judged on originality, creativity and whether it relates to the theme.

There's A Bug Going Around

Have you ever heard someone say they "must have caught a bug"? Or "there are a lot of bugs going around"?
I thought I'd show you what one of them looks like.

This is Clarice the Flu bug. It wasn't hard for me to figure it out. She has wings and she flies. She even has on her coordinating travel hat with the stripe around it. Usually, she is the type who flies in and stays for a day or two and then leaves. This time, she wants a permanent home. She won't be a Flu Bug anymore, but a Flown Bug, and I'm sure non contagious at that point.

Clarice has a spiral design on her tummy. The spiral imprinter is from Karen Leonardo. She has 10 different designs which I think are 13mm. I enjoy using them and look forward to buying more. She's having a special for people who are entering her Glass Challenge through TAM.

And if those greens look a little different to you, they're some of the CIM glass colors. These look so lovely with the periwinkle. Like this Flu Bug is just a fun addition to your collection of lampwork glass beads by me, Marcy Lamberson of Studio Marcy.
