Today, I have an interview with Abbi Carrico of Lunachick Designs: Gems, Metals & Maille.

I asked Abbi to explain how her shop got its name, and this is what she said, " When I decided to start selling, I was trying to come up with something clever that would at least amuse people. I've been called a lunatic enough in my life, so Lunachick just seemed to be the perfect name. It must've worked according to plan, because people seem to be quite tickled by it."

Lunachick told me that she loves fantasy, Bohemian and Gypsy-esque things, and you sure can see that reflected in her work. She went on to further explain, "Sometimes I watch movies and see certain accessories on goddesses, queens, nymphs and dancers that spark ideas in my head." She then makes jewelry that she imagines them wearing. What a great idea!

I noticed that you can't categorize her work by a specific style. She told me that she prides herself on being super eclectic.

I love this necklace. It has handformed dainty clovers that feature white pearls, chrysopase nuggets and a center malachite cabochon.

These are one of a kind and very lightweight, as they were made from stainless steel rings. The two larger hoops are connected by a Byzantine link, an azurite-malachite rondelle suspended in the center of the lower hoop.

Meet K by Kareen on etsy

Meet Kareen of www.KbyKareen.etsy.com. She also has another website, www.KbyKareen.com.

Kareen says "handKrafted" jewelry designs are her specialty. She is a lampwork glass artist who uses a torch to melt her multi hued glass rods that come from Murano, Italy. Each bead is unique and is then incorporated with her handcrafted sterling silver pieces into exqusite jewelry.

"My mother is from Tahiti, so you will find that many of my pieces include blues and greens....coming nowhere close to the intensity of the colors in paradise", she further explains.

She explains how Earmark Invitations got its name. "i sat down with my friendly little thesaurus one day and searched for a good word, under target i saw the word earmark, thought it had a nice ring to it (a characteristic or identifying feature, is the description). So although, it does not have a romantic sound, it is different enough that it is memorable (I hope!) "

Bridgette said that everything influences her style. " i am so in love with color, all color even the ugly ones have a perfect place! Nature influences me as well, i love trees, animals, birds, ocean... all of it it very influential."

"We put alot of time and effort into each design and card. I am very much a perfectionist and thoroughly believe that anyone who buys our cards deserves the best I can give. Our papers, envelopes and printing are top of the line and we hope it shows. If it is something that I would buy then i know I can add it to our collection, if I look at it and say "yeah, i would never buy that" than out it goes...", explains Bridgette.

You'll notice the OOAK Orangy Bird Journal, which is silkscreened on a double thick charcoal gray paper. Great for special notes or even a little sketch book to carry around and inspire your own doodles and art,.

And my personal favorite, the Conempt Collection Multi Pack... It cracks me up. There's a card that serves as a personal hygiene reminder, one that says "thanks for nothing" and others that are equal to those. Definitely worth the smile.

Meet Etsy's Giftbearer

Pippit is the brains behind this 90 day Blog promotion and makes beautiful, thoughtful jewelry. I asked her how she chose her shop's name, and this is her insightful response.
"The name Giftbearer came from my philosophy about making the world a better place by giving something from your heart through the work. I make each of my pieces with the goal of having it connect to the wearer on a deeper level. The people who really "get" my work know what I'm talking about. I infuse each with a life of its own and they are more like living beings than mere accessories or inanimate objects. I've found that my jewelry seems to appeal to people in the healthcare field, especially nurses, and have been told that at least some of my lines may have healing properties in much the same way as animals have been shown to be therapeutic to people with various afflictions."

I am influenced by nature, Native American and other indigenous tribes, but with an added high-end elegance.
I use alot of symbols of regeneration and resilience such as trees, leaves, branches, vines, broken hearts that hatch lovely stones like a seed sprouting, and much of the jewelry I make is quite different from others out there, so despite a vast sea of other jewelry available, my work stands on its own merits and doesn't just become a blur with everything else on the market.

This photo is a close up of just a portion of the fabulous necklace's oxidized copper flowers. It is made from two-in-two chainmaille along with the flowers using copper, embellished with intense aqua facetted Apatite rondelles. This one is one of my personal favorites. I love anything with a "branch/twig" type look and this one is a vine with buds. Pippit says it's one of her "bejeweled organic forms". I say it's a slice of mother earth at her best. It's a lightweight hollowform silver that she used a real vine as a base. Later she added the gem quality apple green Chrysoprase cabs as the buds. 90 Day Challenge Continues...Meet Elements by Dawn

Dawn Brandt, the artist behind, Elements by Dawn, is drawn to "creating pattern and texture in her pieces. Through pattern and texture, her designs take on movement, visual and tactile interest." Dawn's work covers simple shapes and lines to very finely detailed. She works to evoke emotion in her pieces. Dawn strives to perfect traditional methods of metalworking and designs as well as constantly learning new techniques. Her work shows it.

I wanted to showcase two different pieces of jewelry that I found while enjoying her etsy shop, http://elementsbydawn.etsy.com
She has a Fine Silver and Black Leather Necklace - JOY, that I really like. It has a radiating design, with the word, JOY written in bold letters. She oxidized the fine silver, so the word and pattern really stand out. the Greek leather 18" necklace and silver clasp totally complements it. And it's so reasonably priced too, at $30.

The other item I wanted to show you is Dawn's Argentium Sterling Silver Chainmaille Earrings. Wow. I have seen such a surge of people wearing chain maille. It seems to be extremely popular right now. and these are intricate and interesting. I can just imagine the movement from all those 180 individually handmade tiny rings when you move your head. This Japanese Chain Maille pattern is definitely eye catching.

Today Featuring Jewelry Designer...That's Headley!

Today I'm showcasing That's Headley from etsy shop, http://www.thatsheadley.etsy.com.

That's Headley! Jewelry Designs focuses on "color, texture, balance, and richness" as her design goals. And it's easy to see in her work. This month, she's featuring the autumnal color, purple, which is one of my favorite colors too. Visit her shop to see the gorgeous "Royale Bracelet in Amethyst and Sterling Silver". Ooooh, it's pretty.

I've chosen to show you also "Cloudsilver Necklace in Keishi Freshwater Pearl, Labradorite and Sterling Silver". I like the geometric look of the square pendant which she wire wrapped in sterling silver, as well as the soft colors of the pearls and labradorite together. There are matching earrings available too.

The other piece that I'm showing you today is her "San Antone Bracelet in Coral, Turquoise and Sterling", which I love. (She has other pieces using these colors too, which I equally love) Turquoise and red together is another favorite color combination and the red bamboo coral along with the genuine turquoise make up a striking, yet versatile bracelet that would be lovely as a holiday present or even for yourself. And it's adjustable too!

Dog, Garden and Jewelry Lovers...Meet "alilsumptinsumptin" from etsy

Eva from alilsumptinsumptin, is a talented jewelry artist who obviously loves dogs and gardens. Her gorgeous jewelry mostly centers around both topics and I sure love her taste. She uses lampwork glass beads, sterling and bali in her composition, which translates into very high quality pieces. Most importantly, they're really fun too.

Along with her necklaces, bracelets and earrings, I am particularly impressed with her generous heart. You see, Eva donates 100% of her dog jewelry to a non-profit. Wow, you can buy something really cool, and know that it's going to benefit a lot animals who need the help. Wow.
