Looking up or down is always fun. This is the light post base in Bellevue. Little details add up to the enjoyment of this pretty city.

Now You See Me, Or Maybe You Won't!

I have decided to change my blog for the next couple of weeks, while I am on the West Coast.

Instead of regularly scheduled daily blogs, I will shoot a quick photo of something going on, and post it with a short blurb.  Please do not expect it early in the morning as usual.  And perhaps you won't see one every day. (I always take Saturdays off anyhow.)  So let's give this a try and I think if you still like creativity and what's going on the glass world, this could be a lot of fun.

Tomorrow, my Pets Class begins.  Hopefully I can show you something going on that's fun.  And wish me luck.  Tonight my Gathering Presentation is filmed.  Send me good wishes because this dog bead is pretty big and and has some rather interesting appendages that can get chilly quickly.  No explosions, please!

And Happy Birthday to my super duper Mom.  I think you're the very best!  Lots of Love!

Catch you tomorrow from the classroom, (or bar, who knows?)

Sucker Fingers...

I know you've started thinking about back to school necessities, well Think Geek has done it for you.  Here is a set of Sucker Fingers- I know most of us think of them as tentacles, but apparently, octopus have arms, not tentacles. so I'm taking the middle ground.

This is definitely a gift for that person who has everything.  Bet it's not this though!  You can find them here and they are just under $10!

Lucky Dogs

My presentation is ready for next week and along with my demo, I will be showing photos of members and their dogs. Love the enthusiasm and joy when they write about their pets! Hope to see you in Seattle.

Artistic Director Zeus

Zeus is helping me photograph some of my bead vignettes. He seems to have an affinity for witch doctors...which will come with me to the Gathering in Seattle.

Lantern Hues

If you haven't explored www.Design-Seeds.com yet, and you love colors, you're in for a real treat.  I love the look of the photo with the main colors pulled out and on the side.

It is a great way artistically to choose color combinations...soft glass flameworkers- are you visually looking and saying, yes, I have that color, that color and that one?  And also to get an overview of percentage of color used in a photo and how it looks to the eye.

If you haven't popped over there yet, please take some time.  And yes, it will draw you in and suck some of your precious time away, but it will be worth it!

Quilting Daily's Free E-Book

A free E-Book from Quilting Daily? I love 'em.  This one is called "Five Free Fiber Art & Fabric Art Projects".  Yes, sounds just like something I could enjoy.  You can find it here.  If you don't have a sign in and password for Interweave, you will need to set one up.  But it's worth it.

Tomorrow Livestreamed from Corning...

It's your lucky day tomorrow.  Michael Schunke will be demoing his glass goblet techniques tomorrow online (free!) via Corning's Ustream channel from 11am to 12pm.  Hope you can take your lunch hour then and join the group.  It will be fun.

Join Me In Vienna, Austria!

Cornelia Bock is hosting me in Vienna, Austria to teach classes.  I am so excited and am hoping that there will be fellow, non country citizens who want to join me on this gorgeous adventure.  Such a lovely country and so much to see and do either before or afterward.  And with the exchange rate being pretty favorable, I'm always happy to see another part of the world and teach sculptural glass.

We have chosen to do Christmas holiday ornaments and regional related sculpture- a woodland forest related bead or two.  I'll make sure you can take these skills and translate them to other sculptural glass beads and work, as I always do.  And of course there is the Marcy style of teaching- I draw what we're going to do, then I talk and demonstrate what we are doing and then....(ha sounds like a lot of teaching, doesn't it?), and then I walk around the classroom to be available if you need me, so you get the most out of your class. The class is always a lot of fun, but I want to see you pleased with your new skills too.  It's important to me.

So the specifics are...it will be either this September on the 8 - 9, or next September 20-21, 2013.  If we can quickly fill some classes, then it will be a go this year, but in case we can't, then it will be next year.  I know, it is a little crazy, but we're both optimists and I am voting for both years, personally.

So this is how you find out more...first you contact the delightful Cornelia Bock.  Her email address is: bock.c@utanet.at , and you can check out her blog (it's in German- but you can translate through babelfish) http://kultur-art.blogspot.co.at/2012/04/lampwork-class-with-marcy-lamberson.html, and you can visit the facebook webpage: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.303796826361714&type=1.

Perfectly Timed

"The ducks asked me to tell you that they don't particularly like you."

If you haven't wasted a little time at www.perfectlytimedphotos.com, it might be a fun distraction.  Yes, there are the typical off color joke photos, but also plenty of other ones, depending upon your sense of humor.

Here is one of my other favorites...
I believe the word "karma" was in the caption somewhere.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.  Catch you tomorrow!

Mailing Valuable Packages- Old School

Apparently, Parcel Post was started in 1913 and at least two families used the service around 1914 to mail their children.  Yes, you read that right.  The parents affixed the postage onto their clothes and off they went. It was less expensive than a regular train ticket.  Shortly after hearing about this, the Postmaster General stamped out this option.

Love this photo, but can you imagine?

Robotic Jellyfish

I know you'd want to know about the robotic jellyfish that is powered by seawater for the Navy.  Yep, pretty cool, huh?  Possible uses are for environmental monitoring and of course, possible surveillance.

I'm just happy to know that this one doesn't sting too.

Happy 4th!

Taking today off for a little barbecue, fun and of course my favorite...fireworks!  Wishing you all a safe holiday and for non- US folks, happy Wednesday.  See you tomorrow!

Beaches

I'm back from our tour de beaches trip.  Keith, (my sweet hubby) and I headed up to North Carolina to check out some of the beaches there and have an early anniversary celebration.  He chose Carolina Beach - kind of like out of a hat, but we got to see a lot of others, for future trips.

The first photo is the morning sunlight as I walk down towards the beach.  You can see the water if you look hard.  The sand dunes are really cool with all kinds of plants growing in the sand, (I didn't know they could do that) and I'm always looking for interesting debris that is caught in it.  Sometimes it's better if I don't find some of the stuff...but I'm looking for the wayward seashell or beach glass.

And I'm always interested in what kind of home lines a beach.  Having grown up in CT along the water, all the houses were older and different.  Some of these look like a builder had a very attractive cookie cutter and made these almost the same.  They're nice, but sometimes it's just the color that differentiates them.

We had a great time, from fireworks on the beach the first night to seeing some of my wonderful bead buddies- Gina and Jodie and spending time with them to the variety of beaches...Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Wrightsville Beach, Topsail Beach, Surf City and Southport... It was so hot, we couldn't spend a lot of time in the sun, so we drove and spent little bits of time in the different places to check them out.
And of course we ate fresh seafood until we almost burst.

See you tomorrow.  Same time, same place...but sadly, not from the beach.

Upcycled Creative Lamps by ABYU

Steven Wine started upcycling old bottles for kids' lamps and now has grown his business, ABYU Lighting into servicing hotels, restaurants and private residences.  What a fun, creative idea.  I could see doing this with my kids when they were small.

You can see this one and many other styles on his website, here.

Architectural Headboards

This photo speaks to me.  I know, it's just furniture, but there is something about the variety of shapes and textures as well as the varied neutral hues.  It was just an email blast from www.SerenaandLily.com, but the lines, shadows, shapes and colors are nice and varied.

So which one is your favorite.  There are five shown.  Tell me which one speaks to you.
